The story of Hillcrest Baptist Church is a story of God’s unwavering faithfulness. In February of 1956, sixty-six members of Union Baptist Church began praying in their homes and seeking God’s guidance on how to make a gospel impact in Elgin, SC (formerly called Blaney). This desire to see the good news of the gospel impact the lives of those in Elgin and beyond resulted in the formation of Hillcrest Baptist Church on July 22, 1956, and it has characterized Hillcrest ever since.
Hillcrest remains committed to making mature disciples of all people for God’s Glory. And it was this commitment that led Hillcrest to consider a variety of ways of how to best accomplish this mission. After much prayer and counsel, Hillcrest Baptist Church voted to enter a process of Church Revitalization in the Summer of 2023. As a result, Hillcrest is currently in a pivotal season as we seek Jesus’ plan for our church with humble and expectant hearts.
Church Revitalization simply describes the process of a church using biblical means to bring about spiritual vitality that produces a church that is God-glorifying, Christ-centered, Holy-Spirit empowered, Gospel-driven, and Bible-shaped. Revitalization doesn’t happen overnight - it is a long and difficult process. But at its core it holds to the belief that God can do the impossible - he can bring life and hope to circumstances that seem lifeless and hopeless. It is our prayer that Hillcrest Baptist Church will continue to be a story where God’s faithfulness and the power of the Gospel are on full display.
